Top 5 things to do on Lastovo

  • The main village on the island is also called Lastovo. It is built on a steep slope overlooking fertile fields where vegetables, grapes and olives are grown. You can wander among the old stone houses with their iconic red roofs and visit the many churches dotted around the small village. The main church is called Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian and was built in the 15th century. It is recognisable by its three naves.
  • Marvel at the unusual cylindrical chimneys on top of a number of houses in Lastovo village. There is no written explanation for them. It is presumed they were built for practical reasons. The tall chimneys blew the smoke up high above the village. But also for prestigious reasons. The wealthier your family, the taller your chimney!
  • For fantastic panoramic views over the whole of Lastovo village and out to sea, climb up to the top of the Fort (known as Kascel) which now houses a number of important Meteorological instruments.
  • There are a number of well-marked cycling and walking paths across the island. You can pass through the forests and vineyards and appreciate the natural beauty of the island. View more information about it’s Nature Park status on the website – http://www.pp-lastovo.hr/en/homepage
  • Relax at one of the small bays on the island, such as Pasadur, Zaklopatica or Skrivena Luka. Here you will find perfectly clear and lake-like water. These are perfect conditions for swimming, snorkelling & kayaking. There are also two scuba diving centres and the dive sites include shipwrecks One dive centre is in Pasadur and the other in Zaklopatica.
