10 Great Reasons for a Spring Holiday on Korcula

There are so many reasons to rejoice when Spring arrives and this makes it the perfect time to visit Korcula! The sky is bluer, the sun is brighter, the days are longer and the birds are joyfully singing every morning. Why wouldn’t you want to enjoy a Spring Holiday on Korcula?!

1. Enjoy the outdoors

The warmer weather in Korcula without the sweltering heat of summer and the light breeze provides favourable conditions for active outdoor pursuits such as cycling, walking & hiking.

Reasons to visit Korcula in Spring - enjoy the outdoors

2. Avoid the crowds

Avoid the summer crowds and enjoy the relaxed ways of island life. Wander the narrow alleyways of the Old Town without jostling for photograph space or join the locals savouring their mid-morning coffee.

3. Watch nature awake

Appreciate the beauty of nature, as the spring flowers and blossom begin to show their true colours, the animals awaken from their winter slumber and the hunt for wild asparagus commences.

Korcula Town typically hosts an asparagus food festival in late April/the beginning of May. This is a great time to try local asparagus recipes.

4. Save on accommodation

Renting accommodation on Korcula is significantly cheaper throughout the spring months, so your holiday needn’t break the bank. There’s also more available so you can make sure you find your perfect place to stay. Have a look through some of these options.

5. Take part or support the triathlon

Either participate in or cheer on the participants at the yearly Triathlon, the Marco Polo Challenge. The Triathlon takes place in April. As well as the Olympic/Sprint triathlon, you can also compete in charity 5 km race.

6. Indulge in seasonal food

If you’re looking for a relaxing break, simply to enjoy the fine weather with some good food and wine, Spring is the perfect time for this. It’s warm enough to sit on your accommodation balcony or at the beach and is the time for al-fresco dining.

The Spring Food & Wine Festival provides plenty of opportunities to try delicious local dishes and sample local wines. This event usually takes place late April or the start of May.

7. Watch the Easter Festivities

The celebrations on Korcula during Easter are incredible. The solemn procession of the Brotherhoods around Korcula Old Town on Good Friday is particularly memorable.

8. Make the most of cheap flights

Low-cost airlines including EasyJet and Jet2 start operating flights to Dubrovnik and Split from the end of April. As there are typically fewer people travelling during Springtime to Croatia, you should be able to find some good value flights.

9. Take part in the start of season events

Enjoy the start of season events which take place in a number of towns and villages on Korcula Island, including Korcula, Lumbarda and Vela Luka.

10. And even if it rains

Ok, so you may not always miss the spring showers but there are still plenty of things to do inside. For example, you can explore the museums, churches and the Cathedral of St Mark or take a dip in the indoor swimming pool in Korcula.
