About Lastovo Island

Located 13 kilometres south from Korcula is the stunningly beautiful island of Lastovo and it's surrounding archipelago. In total there are 46 islands spread across 200km of land and sea, recognised and preserved as a Croatian Nature Park. The island is only 9.8km in length and 5.8km in width, with a population of under 900 people. The inland main village, also called Lastovo sits picturesquely on a steep hill and dotted around the island are small protected bays, popular with visitors to the island including Pasadur and Zaklopatica.

Why Stay on Lastovo Island?

Things To Do on Lastovo Island

•  Fantastic place for nature lovers and people who enjoy the outdoors with plenty of wildlife and

cycling and walking trails across the island.

•  The island offers a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.

•  Reachable from Vela Luka on Korcula in just 1 hour by fast catamaran or 2 hours by the car ferry. It's also possible to arrange a private RIB transfer from Korcula Town to Lumbarda

The main village on Lastovo, also called Lastovo was built on a steep slope overlooking fertile fields growing vegetables, grapes and olives. You can wander amongst the old stone houses with the traditional red roofs and visit the many churches dotted around the small village. The main church with three naves called Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian was built originally in the 15th century.

Marvel at the unusual cylindrical chimneys on top of a number of houses in Lastovo village. Although there is not written explanation for them, commonly it is presumed they were built for practical reasons, for the smoke to be sent up high above the village, but also for prestigious reasons. The wealthier your family, the taller your chimney!

For fantastic panoramic views over the whole of Lastovo village and out to sea, climb up to the top of the Fort (known as Kascel) which now houses a number of important Meteorological instruments.

There are number of well marked cycling and walking paths across the island through the forests and vineyards, where you will appreciate the natural beauty of the island. View more information about it's Nature Park status on the website - http://www.pp-lastovo.hr/en/homepage

Relax at one of the small bays on the island, including Pasadur, Zaklopatica or Skrivena Luka where the perfectly clear and lake-like water provides perfect conditions for swimming, snorkelling & kayaking.

There are two scuba diving centres on Lastovo with opportunities for professional and novice divers to explore the sea creatures and plants below and visit ship wrecks. One is in Pasadur and one is Zaklopatica.

Travelling Around

By foot / By bike

There are well marked trails and asphalted roads and bikes can be hired in Lastovo and the larger bays.
